Tris the hunger games

They were unpredictable characters who showed their skills of violence, and brute strength was what they relied on to get by. Both characters mocked those they knew were weaker than them. Much like Cato, Peter roped others into his plans and forced them to fight with him, like his kidnap and attack on Tris in the middle of the night.

Even though they showed cold, violent sides, they also revealed a soft layer underneath them. Cato and Peter both have moments in the movies when they admit they don't want to be the bad guys but don't feel they have a choice. President Snow and Jeanine were both the ultimate dictator antagonists of their respective series.

They both used propaganda and lies to maintain a false image for their naive followers. Both figures proved they would do anything for power and control, Jeanine with her serums and Snow with his games.

Although both are smart individuals, probably some of the smartest characters in The Hunger Games and Divergent , they rely solely on lies to portray a false sense of peace and hope. Their arrogant natures were their own undoing, as they grew too confident in their advances, and both were overthrown.

Johanna and Christina both come across as snarky, rough individuals who have no problem getting dirty. Although neither liked to admit their weaknesses and accept help, they both showed weaknesses and eventually were more open about their emotions. Johanna was notorious for her rebellious personality and proved she would never fit into the mold that the capital wanted her to as seen through her controversial actions and some memorable lines in The Hunger Games.

Christina also proved defiant when she made fun of Four's name and refused to fight in their physical training. Similarly, they both are wounded and guarded characters because of the deaths of their loved ones.

Primrose and Caleb were both the siblings of the main protagonists and shared a similar naive innocence and dependent nature. In Divergent the society is separated into five factions, each representing a virtue: honesty, intelligence, bravery, selflessness, and peace. Members of different factions rarely associate with each other. Likewise, in the Hunger Games the nation is divided into twelve districts. Each district has a main industry that functions as the center of life for its population.

In addition to similarities, Divergent and the Hunger Games have several key differences. For example, in Divergent one has the ability to choose their faction at the age of sixteen, therefore allowing them to dictate their own future. On the other hand, one does not have the freedom of choosing their district in the Hunger Games. Another difference is that conflicts within the government erupt throughout the story in Divergent, whereas opposition towards the government is present for several decades in the Hunger Games.

The protagonists also face difference difficulties in their stories. Tris mainly struggles to find her place in her new faction, while Katniss has more day-to-day problems, such as finding food for her family. Tris is more of soldier, involved in the combat itself, whereas Katniss is portrayed rather as an icon of hope for the rebels.

Furthermore, Tris and Katniss both engage in romance in their stories. Tris always shows affection towards only Four, but Katniss is involved in a romance triangle with two boys and struggles to decide between them. The final contrast between Divergent and the Hunger Games is that in the Hunger Games, the Capitol is more clearly defined as the all-powerful government that controls the nation of Panem.

An unnamed government, however, composed of members of different factions exists in Divergent, therefore differentiating the two books. Comparing and contrasting these two novels allows me as a reader to grow by delving deeper into the context of each book.

We try to make TeenInk. Please note that while we value your input, we cannot respond to every message. I just rely on my instincts. I have a very visual memory. I remember words and phrases. I have a horrible memory. Side braid. Long and curly. I would just leave my hair as is. I hate nicknames. Flying birds.

Bite marks. They can't control you. Ambitious but jealous of others. Kind but aloof. Intelligent but always busy. I don't really talk to other people. Exercising or training for something.

Spending time in nature. Reading a good book. With my significant other. Bay stallion. The Architect. The Persuader. The Inspector. The Giver. She began to step back just like Opal had done. Tris approached her mother smiling wickedly. Then she stabbed her mother until she died. Realizing she had murdered four people in less than seven hours Tris felt several emotions. Suddenly, tons of memories full of blood and screams flew around in her brain.

She began to cry realizing she had taken innocent lives. She would often have little attacks in which her darker side took control of her. Everyone in the district knew what she had done and stayed even more away from her than ever. Tris lived her life in misery and fear until the reaping came. Many people were afraid to go to the reaping with a mad murderer on the loose so there was extra security.

Tris managed to sneak in with the 12 year old girls. As she was reaped many people began to scream. They were afraid for their lives and began to grab their children and leave. Tris walked up silently to the stage and took her place while all the time crying silently. She had begun to detest her life and hoped at the same time that she would win and lose so she could be with her dead mother.

Strengths: Although Tris has two different sides to her, both of her sides have the same strengths and weaknesses. Tris is really fast and can outrun anybody. It takes a lot for anyone to run faster than her. Being that she has great stamina. She is also very physically strong. She can win a hand to hand match as long as she has a weapon on her that she can use for the element of surprise. She is also very stealthy. She can track people down quite easily but she herself is not very easy to track down.

Weaknesses: Since Tris has a terrible memory she has a terrible knowledge of edible plants. She will often confuse them and that could end her life.

She is also a terrible tree climber due to her fear of heights. She is also terrible at swimming. She has dull senses and her eyesight fails her a lot. So does her hearing for that matter. She is also terrible at hunting and has bad aim with her weapons. Fears: Tris has an insane fear of heights and will turn into a coward as soon as she has to face that fear. She also has a fear of being powerless and not being able to do anything.
